Deirbhle’s Twist is on the North Mayo Sculpture Trail. The trail was created in 1993 and is also known in Gaelic as Tír Sáile. It sits on Faulmore just up from Blacksod lighthouse at the tip of the Mullet peninsula.
Commissioned for the Sculpture trail and designed by artist Michael Bulfin who got his inspiration from ancient folklore and Megalithic Ireland. Overlooking Blacksod Bay towards the towering sea cliffs of Croughan, Slievemore mountain and open to the worst of the Atlantic storms, the sculpture gives a sense of the permanence of the landscape and ancient longevity even though it is there for only a fraction of the ancient times it was designed to evoke.
